Rugby Core Values
In 2009 member Unions identified Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline and Respect as the defining characteristics of Rugby. These are now collectively known as the World Rugby Core Values and are incorporated within the World Rugby Playing Charter, a document which aims to ensure that Rugby maintains its unique character both on and off the field of play.
The Core Values enable participants immediately to understand the character of the Game and what makes it distinctive as a sport which is played by people of all shapes and sizes.
Rugby NorCal upholds these values, empowering all member clubs to instill these values in their players.
Rugby is a challenging game and a great environment through which to forge good character. Integrity is central to the spirit of the game and players learn to maintain strong character, honesty and fair play through the toughest of situations.
Rugby generates excitement, emotional attachment and a sense of belonging to the global rugby family. The greatest rugby players have the deepest passion. It's the passion for the game and everything it stands for that carries players through the toughest of trainings and hardest losses.
Rugby brings people of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds and beliefs together. Through rugby we learn to see past our differences and focus on the similarities that unite us all. This solidarity creates a unifying spirit that connects our global rugby family.
A quality that is a key to success in any area of life, rugby teaches players the importance of maintaining a consistent and obedient approach toward achieving ones goals.
Respect is a core element in our great game. Players learn that treating others with respect (team-mates, opponents, match officials, etc.) is a key to success.
